What is wrong with my sister?

My sister has cut off contact with me , my mum and dad (for the last five years) we have no idea why. as a child she was cold, withdrawn and would lash out without thinking of the consequences. As a teenager she was aggresive (she twisted my mums arm, tried to push her down stairs, and hit my dad in the chest with a spanner, to name a few instances) When she left home she cut off contact. She lies to family members and often twists facts (making up lies, imagining things, ). She appears over friendly (very over the top and sickly) to others. She also seems to be confused about her sexuality. My mum and dad gave us the best of everything, and we could not have possibly been brought up in a better family environment. the fact that she will have nothing to do with us- It is killing me and my parents, and is placing strain on their 30 year marriage. We have tries everything to understand what has happened , but nothing works. We dont know if she has a some kind of illness or not . Please help

What you are describing might indicate a behavioral problem though Maybe she experienced a trauma from outside of the family , you know kids often encounter other figures in their lives and maybe there is someone that caused her pain or discomfort and she blames the family for not protecting her... You should try and get professional help its a shame to miss out a relationship with your sister.

Turn off the television and teach your children how to think.

What you describe certainly sounds as though it could be some form of mental illness. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do until your sister initiates contact or seeks treatment.

You and your parents need to realize that mental illness strikes regardless of upbringing, status or any other criteria. Your parents did not cause your sister's illness. Things which occurred in your sister's life may have contributed to her illness, but the actual cause is most likely due to something physical, and it could possibly be corrected or controlled with proper treatment.

Meanwhile, I know you and your parents are upset by your sister's actions, but please do your best to accept that your sister is ill and then let it go. It would be a shame for anyone else to be hurt by her behavior.
