I am refinishing a oak table that was used for a work bench at one time. After stripping and sanding i have found there is a oil stain on part of the top.I would like  some tips on refinishing it. I have planned to use a dark walnet stain and i would like to have it look somewhat uiform

steve   go to hardware store and see if you can find deck stain remover use as directed, dont get on legs or apron, after this it will require lots more sanding as you will lift grain...sand untill smooth..then rinse the top down with lacquer thinner, this will remove contaminents sand again, you should be able to drag your stain out even at this point..remember take your time and enjoy your project DONT RUSH....good luck
