What to wear after mastectomy?

Am completing treatment for Breast Cancer. I had a mastectomy which removed my right breast. I will be having reconstruction but, not until next summer. I will be going back to work in a couple of months. I am a school secretary and do not feel like I can wear what I wore before. I am 5'2" tall and am in process of getting back in shape which has always been discribed as being in preportion. Thanking you in anticipation.

Good for you for getting back to your life.  Although I myself haven't experienced breast cancer, my best friend is currently in treatment and I have been helping her find various resources.

Have you considered a mastectomy bra with a prosthetic?  If this is something you'd be comfortable, you should be able to wear most of the same clothes, as long as they cover the bra.  Here are some sites you may want to check out:

Good luck, keep on keepin' on!

Hi Cindy,

Great that you are on the road to recovery. Losing a breast is not the end of the world and it can be easily diguised by the use of a prosthetic. A good Prosthetic will allow you to wear most of your old clothes without a problem.

You wil soon become quite at ease with the prosthetic and who knows, maybe after a short while you may decide to not even go for reconstruction.

Keep your head up high and start to live your life to the fullest.
