I have been diagnosed with Trigiminal Neuralgia ...

I have been diagnosed with Trigiminal Neuralgia.  The MRI shows that the nerve affected goes up into my head with a blood vessel wrapped around it.  I am taking Tegrinal, Elivil, Zoloft, Temazepine, and Baclefen.  Right now it has not been bothering me because of the hot weather.  Otherwise, it still get episodes with cool weather and breezes.  Is there anything they can do with this nerve that goes up into my head because of a birth defect.  I fall, very unsteady on my feet, have memory loss, etc. I am 61 yrs old.  I am afraid to go anywhere so I am on zanax also.  I can't get a job because I can't promise that I can get to work every day.  Can they operate?

Carol, I have TN also. First, get off of Zoloft NOW! Ask your doctor to switch you to Cymbalta or Lexapro. The Zoloft is causing more harm than good. The side effects alone are hurting not helping you - as indicated by your symptoms. Just make sure that in the cold weather/breeze/wind, keep your head/face covered with a scarf. Are you on disability? As for surgery, probably not. Sound too risky. Make sure your primary care has referred you to a qualified neurologist and neurosurgeon.
