Is there such a thing as a "coward's patch" in the military, or a unit having their "colors captured", or having to wear their patches reversed? Someone told me there was a case where an Army unit retreated leaving a Marine unit (led by Chesty Puller?) to fight alone, and the Army unit had to wear their patches reversed.

I cannot verify that information! Here are two links that might be helpful. Wikipedia is not always correct but the information about "Chesty Puller" is correct and may offer other links to follow. Military history is a topic that I am familiary with and I do not know of any U.S. Military tradition about 'Colors Captured.' This has been used by other countries but not in the United States.
