How do you measure jitter tolerance for SONET?
Unlike conventional Backplane PHYs, measuring jitter in SONET PLLs requires specialized equipment. The type of jitter source considered for jitter tolerance measurement for SONET PHYs is just sinusoidal modulation. The Jitter tolerance requirements for SONET is specified in section 5.6.2.2.2 of Telcordia Technologies GR-253-CORE issue 3. It is specified for an entire range of frequencies. Jitter tolerance at a specific frequency is the amount of jitter the receive PLL can tolerate without any bit errors. http://www.cypress.com/?rID=32374
