I have restricted my dogs' space via baby gates. I don't have to shut them in a small room or crate during the day, and it keeps them from rooms in the house that may be a problem. Also, dogs get bored, and most of them love to chew. Get them some chewy squeaky toys and some raw-hides.

Training your pets to behave a certain way when you are away for a few hours is not impossible, but very difficult in my experience as a four-year owner.

If you want some additional help I suggest you visit Dove's dog training , you should find everything to help you there.

Hope that helps, all the best!!

Victims of circumstance owe it to fate. Victims of choice owe it to themselves.

You do not not want to stop your dog from chewing. You want him to stop chewing certain items, I think. If you will post what items that he chews that makes you angry, then perhaps you can get some specific advice.

John's answer is very good.

Does your dog have plenty of chew toys.  My dog was a chewer.  He actually tore up an old sofa that we had (was a good excuse for me getting a new one, lol).  Then we got him a whole bunch of chew toys and it stopped.  He loves chewing on the nylabones most, and the Knotted rope toys.  I played with him a lot with these toys and before long thats all he was chewing.  Be careful with rawhides....they can splinter and get stuck in their intestines and my dog can destroy a squeeky toy in about 15 minutes and he is a chihuahua.

Why is my dog chewing things when we go out?

My dog is 2 years old and every time we leave the house she chews something up. We had to putting her in a cage when we leave - we have tried everything we can but she just keeps chewing. Any suggestions?
