My husband is a 50 year old male with hip and ...

My husband is a 50 year old male with hip and groin pain.  Most his pain goes in his right groin. He had an mri of my low back which resulted in images showing l5s1 diffused disk bulging lateralizing to the right, contacting the right s1 nerve root in the spinal canal. Now he have been seeing a chiropractor, taking steroids three different times now.   He really doesn't feel any better.  He gets the pain mostly after walking up and down steps and some bending or lifting. He is fine when I get up in the morning.

He has also had xrays of his hip showing normal spacing. The pain really started after jumping on a trampoline with his autistic grandson.  He jumped almost every day for months.  Could this actually be his hip that is his problem or does his mri from his back tell you it is his back?

I believ the pain in his groin could have to do with the spinal issue though I am not a doctor of course. Pain can referred to different areas that aren't necessarily close to the cause of the pain. It sounds like this is something for an orthopedist to deal so it's best you ask him your question.

All the best

I'm an RN/Nurse Practitioner and this problem is definitely from a nerve being pinched and the trampoline impact definitely caused/exacerbated it.  He needs to see a real doctor instead of a chiropractor and get some meds and see if rest and analgesics resolve the problem. No more trampoline!!  If not, he's going to need to see a surgeon to have the disc shaved down so that it's not pressing on the nerve root and causing pain.

A possible cause for hip/low back pain in the presence of negative radiology studies could be peripheral artery disease.  Blocked arteries that supply the hip and lower back can cause pain in those areas.  Not that this is the problem, but erectile dysfuncion is more commonly the result of blocked arteries rather than other medical or mental problems.  It is a consideration to make when hip/low back pain is not resolved by anti-inflammatory medication or chiropractic manipulations.  If you seek a consultation from Orthopedic Surgeons, they will likely want to do surgery.  Your family physician do screenings for Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) by ultrasound studies.

Risk factors for PAD are SMOKING #1, coronary artery disease requiring open heart surgery or angioplasty/stent, high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, FAMILY HISTORY for heart attack or any type of artery intervention like angioplasty and stenting.

thank you for your help. My husband also had a mri of his hip and it showed bone atrophy.  Now they are going to do a bone scan.
