this is for URI93. What sedatives are you talking about? I,m already on antiaxniety medications , but they are not helping. Xanax did nothing for me. Can they give you a sedative before the colonoscopy?

Instant Person-Just add coffee.

Sammie, I don't have any particular tranquilizers in mind, as I haven't taken any.  I was basing my answer on my friend who was afraid to have an MRI  because she is afraid of tight spaces. Her doctor gave her two tranquilizers to ease her fear until after the test was over.  She took one the day before, and one the day of the MRI and it worked.  You might talk to your doctor and see if he thinks that these would help you, and if you CAN take something else along with the sedatives you are using.   You can get through this and look back and wonder why you had such fear of it--the unknown is always scary.   Good luck to you.

You can also perhaps take a pain pill.

I have had several surgeries for skin cancer, but I found that I was always extremely stressed and worried before each new surgery.

I mentioned it to my doctor and since he had given me a prescription of Tylenol with codeine for pain (I'm allergic to Vicodin), he advised me to take one of those 30 minutes before my surgery, to "mellow me out."

You know, it worked.
