What should roof look like?

I'm building a 5' x 10' mudd room w/4 windows. My question is, should the roof look like a porch roof or be pitched the same way as the house is? It's going to be a metal roof if that makes any difference. Also if the pitch goes with the house wouldn't I have to extend the metal roof farther down so that it covers the stairs. That way no snow will fall on anyone.
