Obama Ratchets Up the Rhetoric on Iran

It took a while for President Obama to speak out forcefully on Iran, but it may have been worth the wait. At a noon-hour press conference Tuesday, the president pronounced himself "appalled and outraged" by the violence and repression the Iranian government has directed at its own people – people who have peacefully protested what is widely believed to be a stolen election.

Pushing the President's Buttons

"I strongly condemn these unjust actions, and I join with the American people in mourning each and every innocent life that is lost," Obama said in his most pointed comments yet about the crisis that has shaken Iran and focused worldwide attention on its repressive regime.

"I have made it clear that the United States respects the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and is not at all interfering in Iran's affairs," the president added, "but we must also bear witness to the courage and dignity of the Iranian people, and to a remarkable opening within Iranian society."

Obama paid tribute to the women of Iran, pointing to the death of Neda Agha Soltan, a bystander who stepped out of her car because it was stuck in traffic and was shot in the chest, presumably by government-backed militiamen. Video of the 26-year-old woman's bloody death in the street has gone around the world on the Internet – including into the White House.

"We have seen courageous women stand up to brutality and threats, and we have experienced the searing image of a woman bleeding to death on the streets," the president said in his statement. "While this loss is raw and painful, we also know this: those who stand up for justice are always on the right side of history." Asked during the last question of his hourlong newser whether he had seen the video of Neda Agha Soltan's death himself, the president affirmed that he had.

"It's heartbreaking," he said quietly, pausing for a second. "It's heartbreaking. And anybody who sees it knows that there is something fundamentally unjust about that."

The president, who said during his 2008 campaign that he'd be willing to meet with Iranian leaders, has been under building pressure this month to draw some kind of line over that regime's behavior. He has refrained from doing so, he said plainly Tuesday, in hopes of keeping the United States from being a dominant player in the story line. Obama has stuck to this script, even though, as he acknowledged, Iranian officials are blaming him anyway.

His refusal to be baited strikes some experts as perfect pitch, while others, both in Washington and Tehran, have wanted him to be more forceful. Obama acknowledged both sides of the argument Tuesday, opening the press conference by reading a carefully calibrated written statement that expressed strong disapproval of Iran's government while continuing to emphasize that he will not make the kind of threats that turn the behavior of the United States into the issue.

"This tired strategy of using old tensions to scapegoat other countries won't work anymore in Iran," he said. "This is not about the United States and the West; this is about the people of Iran and the future that they -- and only they -- will choose."

Later, in response to a question, Obama pointed to accusations by Iranian officials that the CIA was behind the protests as well as cynical mistranslations of his own words, which purportedly quote Obama as encouraging people to riot. Such claims are "patently false and absurd," he said, "(and) are an obvious attempt to distract people from what is truly taking place within Iran's borders."

Obama parried without really answering a question about whether he had been motivated to speak more pointedly about Iran by criticism from Capitol Hill, most especially from John McCain. And he directly rebuffed efforts from at least two journalists to get him to say what, if any, actions his administration might take against Iran. He reminded his audience Tuesday of his two core principles when it came to negotiating with Iran: making sure the current regime doesn't obtain nuclear weapons and ensuring that it ceases to sponsor terrorism around the world.

The regime has given no indication that it has any intention of backing down in either area, and has now added a third grievance: rigging its own elections and shooting down unarmed civilians in the street who dare protest – or who just happen to be where demonstrations are taking place.

The president said: "There is a path available to Iran (in which) their traditions, culture, their faith is respected...but operates according to norms and international rules that are universal."

There is nothing God cannot do.  Do we dare to hope our prayers are being answered and God is working with us to turn the hearts of those that lead us to saving our Land of the Free, One Nation Under God?  I Pray so.

No, I don't think so even thought I too Pray for it, rather I see it as just another "I'm a Good Guy Spotlight Event". I think he realy doesn't care about Iranian Peoples being "Brutalized" by their "Religion" as he & they are on the "Same Page" & want Peoples' Freedoms Supressed!!! Make no mistake, he is NOT a Christian & when told to will "Bow" to his "Religious Brothers" as we have seen already.   John

Lead Found in White House Veggie Garden Print This

When First Lady Michelle Obama planted an organic vegetable garden on the White House's South Lawn back in March, she was praised by sustainable food activists and local school children alike. Now, the First Lady is faced with a grim, if not slightly awkward, blip in her plans for a White House vegetable garden -- the first since World War II.

The National Park Service recently reported that potentially dangerous levels of lead had been discovered in the garden's soil -- 93 parts per million. There are conflicting reports on what constitutes a dangerous level of lead in soil. The Environmental Protection Agency warns that anything above 400 ppm could pose a threat to human health. The National Gardening Association deems anything under 300 ppm safe for humans. While Penn State's College of Agriculture Sciences says anything under 150 ppm is a low lead contamination level and likely not dangerous to humans.

Whatever the accurate number may be, high levels of lead are known to pose health threats to children, a point bearing a bit of irony since the garden itself was used prominently to showcase Michelle Obama's role in encouraging healthy eating habits in-- you guessed it-- children. Lead exposure can cause neurological and kidney damage in kids. It can stunt their growth and what's worse, children's bodies seem to absorb more lead than adults.

What caused elevated levels in White House garden soil? Well, as reported on MotherJones.com, it all began back in the 1980s when the South Lawn was fertilized by ComPRO, "a compost made from a nearby wastewater plant's solid effluent, a.k.a. sewage sludge. Sludge is controversial because it can contain traces of almost anything that gets poured down the drain, from Prozac flushed down toilets to lead hosed off factory floors."

It was a way for the EPA to show the public that it was indeed safe to spread "sludge" as fertilizer. "The Clintons are walking around on poo," the EPA's sludge chief quipped in 1998, "but it's very clean poo."

Then, in 2005, ComPRO fertilizer, now renamed Orgro, was used "in a controversial, 2005 lead abatement study conducted in a predominately African-American neighborhood in Baltimore." Scientists wanted to test if lead levels in the soil of inner-city yards could be reduced by mixing in sludge. While lead levels did decrease, the startling revelation was the initial levels of lead in the "sludge" which were roughly 237 parts per million -- about 23 times normal soil levels, according to MotherJones.com

So what is sludge, really? As Andrew Kimbrell, executive director of the Center for Food Safety, reported in The Huffington Post, "it's everything homeowners, hospitals and industries put down their toilets and drains. Every material-turned-waste that our society produces (including prescription drugs and the sweepings of slaughterhouses), and that wastewater treatment plants are capable of removing from sewage, becomes sludge. The end product is a concentrated mass of heavy metals and carcinogenic, teratogenic, and hormone-disrupting chemicals, replete with antibiotic-resistant bacteria. There are some 80,000 to 90,000 industrial chemicals, including a host of dioxin-like deadly substances, which are allowed to be present in sludge under current EPA rules. What's worse, there's no way of knowing which toxic chemicals and heavy metals are entering the wastewater stream at any given time or in what concentrations. Sludge is always an unknown quantity, and therefore, assessing whether sludge is safe to use for growing food, is -- in practice -- impossible."

Interestingly, food companies like H.J. Heinz and Del Monte don't accept produce that's been grown on land treated with sludge. In adding to this sticky situation is the fact that Michelle's plan for an organic vegetable garden will never come to fruition since organic certification processes prohibit the use of sludge. It has been reported though that the White House had no intentions of boasting an "organic" garden (at least not at this point in time), knowing well that it takes at least three years for a garden to be certified organic.

Before we all rush to a conclusion that the first family and local school children are threatened by lead, the First Lady has jumped in saying it's not so. "The garden recently underwent extensive soil testing that proved it is completely safe," said Katie McCormick Lelyveld, the first lady’s press secretary.

"A lead level of 93 parts per million is significantly better than the government standard for a garden like this. The White House Kitchen Garden Team is committed to producing fresh, safe and healthy food as a learning opportunity about healthy eating, and they'll continue to do so."

Lou Dobbs Right on Obama Birth Certificate
Monday, August 3, 2009 9:48 AM

By: Newsmax Staff Article Font Size javascript:setActiveStyleSheet('default'); javascript:setActiveStyleSheet('largeFont');

The Associated Press is wrong and Lou Dobbs is right.

This past weekend, the AP published a story entitled "CNN's Dobbs Under Fire for Hosting 'Birthers'".

The AP began their highly critical story on Dobbs: "He's become a publicity nightmare for CNN, embarrassed his boss and hosted a show that seemed to contradict the network's 'no bias' brand."

And what is Dobbs' "crime?" He has said on air that Obama should release his birth certificate and has had on his show guests who suggested Obama was born outside the U.S.

Dobbs does not believe Obama was born outside the U.S., nor does Newsmax. The evidence indicates he was born in Hawaii. But the indisputable fact is that Obama has not released his birth certificate, which the state of Hawaii issues for all citizens born there. The AP implies that Obama has not released a "long version of his birth certificate." But Obama has never released either a long or short version of his birth certificate.
Instead, Obama's campaign last year released only his Certification of Live Birth from the state of Hawaii, which is a document that offers a summarized version of the birth certificate. Even state residents born outside the U.S. can get one.
During the 2008 presidential campaign, GOP nominee Sen. John McCain quickly released his birth certificate when liberal bloggers raised questions about his eligibility to be president. McCain was born at a military hospital in Panama.
Obama likewise could put the matter to rest by releasing his actual birth certificate, which would show, among other things, the place of his birth and the doctor who performed the birth procedure.
This information is not provided on the Certification of Live Birth.
As it stands, Obama is the only president in history whose birthplace is unknown to the public – a fact that would be stated on the actual birth certificate. Interestingly, his family has mentioned two different hospitals in Hawaii as the place of birth.
Obama’s refusal to release his birth certificate does mean that Obama remains one of America’s most mysterious and opaque presidents ever.
Obama, for example, has not released many other documents regarding his public and private life.
Many of these documents were sought by reporters, who easily acquiesced when Obama said he would not release them – though most presidential candidates release them as a perfunctory matter.
Among the key documents that Obama continues to shield from the public:
• Obama released just one brief document detailing his personal health. McCain, on the other hand, released what he said was his complete medical file, totaling more than 1,500 pages.
• Obama refused to offer his official papers as a state legislator in Illinois. Nor did he produce correspondence, such as his schedules of appointments or letters from lobbyists, from his days in the Illinois state Senate.
• Obama did not release his client list as an attorney or his billing records. He maintained that he performed only a few hours of legal work for a nonprofit organization with ties to Tony Rezko, the Chicago businessman convicted of fraud in June 2008 but did not release billing records that would prove this assertion.
• Obama ignored requests for his records from Occidental College, where he studied for two years before transferring to Columbia University.
• Obama’s campaign refused to give Columbia, where he earned an undergraduate degree in political science, permission to release his transcripts. Former President George W. Bush and presidential contenders Al Gore and John Kerry all released their college transcripts.
• Obama did not agree to the release of his application to the Illinois State Bar, which would have cleared up intermittent allegations that his application may have been inaccurate.
• Obama did not release records from his time at Harvard Law School.
• During the presidential campaign, McCain’s campaign released a full list of all online donors. Obama’s campaign still has not released the names of those who donated at least one-third of the $750 million he raised.

Ironically, Obama accused the Bush White House of being "one of the most secretive administrations in our history," and chided then-Sen. Hillary Clinton for not releasing her White House schedules.

Actually, we haven't, it's NOT BEING TAUGHT AT ALL leaving a couple "Generations" Totally Ignorant!!!

It appears that the Topic of Obummers B.C. is starting to get quite a bit more "Play" lately on the major "Talk Show Circuit" & the "Verdict" seems to be that Obummer CAN'T BE IMPEACHED as he is NOT A CITIZEN so the Attorney General (his Appointee) would have to Remove (Deport as Illegal Alien) him! As an "Appointee" his (like the Czars) Position is Also "Illegal" so that it seems the "States Attorneys Generals" would have to do it. This would keep Joe Biden in office long enough (30-90 days) to "Oversee" a "New Election" (are the women folk already putting together their 'War Chests' from the 'Left Overs'? Hillary & Palin) and Cancel everything the "Administration" has done!!! It is getting so bad that China & Many Others are meeting secretly to select a "New Currency" as they fear (rightly so) that our $$$ has to be "Devalued" & they are holding a Bunch of the Worthless Stuff!!! I envision certain "Documents" leaked to bring this all about shortly!!!   John
