Who pays for the honeymoon

I was always under the impression that the bride's parents pay for everything, the wedding, rehearsal dinner, and the honeymoon. I'm not sure on the shower..thought it was the groom's parents. The bride's family can't contribute anything. My son is paying for most of the wedding but the wedding is a yard wedding at our place and has cost some money. Two weeks before this wedding he tells me the grooms parents are suppose to pay for the honeymoon. Is this true?

Thank you

Frantic mom

No, that is not true. He is trying to put one over on you. If they are getting married, can we assume that they are adults? Then let them pay for their own vacation. If you want to give a gift that is fine, but it is voluntary. Do not let him "force" you to give something that you cannot affor  It is also not true that the bride's parents should pay for everything.

Instant Person-Just add coffee.

Absolutely not--the bride and groom pay for their own honeymoon. In this area, the groom's parents pay for the rehersal dinner, and nothing else unless they chose to.  The shower usually is not given by either set of parents.  It's usually by the bridesmaids and friends.

Smile, it's contagious!

Tradition the Groom's family pays for the Rehearsal dinner and Alcohol at the reception.  The Bride's family pays for Reception and all related expenses  (cake).  The Groom pays for the Honeymoon and Rings and the Ushers' gift.  The Bride pays for  Bridesmaids' gifts and the Flowers.  Showers are usually given by the Maid-of-Honor and Bridesmaids.

However, tradition is often overlooked today.  The expenses are based on who can afford what.  If no one can then a simple ceremony before the judge will suffice .  Often times a simple restaurant dinner is all the celebration there is.  The honeymoon can be a weekend get-away if that is all that is in your budget.  Or, even time away at your friend's cabin in the woods.  Nowadays anything goes.   What ever is in the budget.  And, that includes both sets of parents as well as the happy couple.

I've even attended a wedding reception held in a friend's yard in a trailer park with a picnic style luncheon and homemade box cake.

Who pays for what is a great question.  There is no real answer.  With money being so tight, the bride and groom may have to kick in or scale back their plans.

Todays young folks face an unclear future.

When my wife and I were married 35 years ago, we paid for everything.  My wife insisted that we save the money ourselves, of course, I still do what she says.

Just yesterday she asked me, " what are you doing today, I said Nothing.  She said " you did that yesterday"  I told her, " I wasn't quite done yet "

Good Luck

The new couple pay their own honeymoon. After that it depends who can pay for what? We are not a bunch of rich people who live like the Gotrocks
