Boot camp? That is otherwise called Basic Training. The Army has a good but it isn't very tough. That means, the rest of your tour, the Army will treat you pretty much like a recruit.
Marine Basic Training is the first of several schools. OCS starts in college, but they put the Officers through the toughest training that human beings can survive. The idea is that the tougher you get in your first stages of training, the tougher you will stay -- and that will spell the difference.
Note that the Marines are still the few and the proud. Once a Marine is done with boot camp, he will never be treated like a boot again. That makes truly easy yet challenging service.
