Why does man oppose the will of God?

Pope Benedict XVI is a religious leader. How can he command Israel to give up that is God's. He too will suffer the wrath of God for thinking to do this against God's will. Israel is God's land to do with as He wills to do. All who oppose Him will be punished!!
