Which language is more complex and difficult to learn Chinese or Japanese?

I know that a part of the Japanese system writing is derived from Chinese; also they developed their own writing. Answers without any explanations are not welcome.

Although Chinese and Japanese belong to different language systems, the writing system of Japanese came from Chinese. The Chinese writing was introduced to Japan in the 5th or 6th century, and Japan supplemented Chinese with hiragana and katakana which is derived from Chinese. Which language is more complex and difficult to learn is up to the learning capability of the learners. If you are more interested in the culture, society and customs of one country then you will most probably find it is easier to learn the language of that country. Language difficulty is subject and really depends on the motivation, attitudes and interests of the learner

I found Japanese easier to learn. Mostly because the meaning of Japanese words depends on context rather than on how you pronounce it. Not a LOT easier, mind you, but a few less things to try to remember. On the other hand, while I love Japan dearly and wish I could still afford to live there, the Chinese people are more forgiving of foreigners who are struggling to understand the language and culture. And more helpful, really. I think, overall, Chinese people are really happier by nature and more welcoming than Japanese, and that can make a big difference.
