You must report this to your gynecologist. Everyone is different and by reporting this you are telling the doctor he/she has to do some fine tuning until you get the right dose and the right medicine.

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity (Love), I am become as a sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vauneth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seekth not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth.

And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is (Love) charity.

Parvathi,

He probably have you on those pills because you are too young for a hysterectomy. You are still much into your child baring years and most doctors do not like to perform a hysterectomy on a patient unless they have conceived at least one child.

Has he ever tried to do a D&C to see if that will help your abnormal bleeding? Another thing he should search for is a fibroid tumor.

Some women just have large uterus which results in abnormal bleeding. At the age of 23 I don't think that you are going through menopause as of yet. Also have him check you out for endometriosis.

Usually when a woman suffers from this kind of bleeding and she is of menopausal age, the doctor recommends a hysterectomy because of the excessive blood loss.

It seems like your doctor is trying to control your bleeding with hormones to keep from doing alternative surgery.

Sometimes having a child corrects the problem.

Parvathi,

A D&C is a scraping of the uterine lining. Sometimes the uterus can have a thick lining which when it sheds monthly can cause a excessive amount of bleeding. Once the uterus is scraped it allows a new lining to develop. In this case it may alleviate some of the excessive bleeding. On close examination of the uterus it also allows the physician to discover if there was possibly a small fibroid hiding somewhere in the uterus.

When they do a D&C, believe it or not, they pull the entire uterus out of the body and scrape the entire lining.

It is not painful because you are asleep. You usually bleed for about a week but it is not heavy. It is more so like a light discharge or a period.

With a fresh uterine lining it may help your bleeding. It is sort of like having a baby. When a woman has a baby she sheds all of the old uterine lining and develops a new one.

Oh I forgot, D&C stands for dilation and curettage.

We make a Living by what we get, We make a Life by what we give.

God promises a safe landing, not a calm passage. If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

This happened to me when I was on the higher hormone pills.  I told my dr. to put me on a normal one that you take a pill all month long, then my period became normal again.  Oral contraceptives are tricky and very different from one to another.  Also, if you are taking the normal 28 pills, that doesn't mean that you stop for 2 or 3 more days; you open your next package whether you have your period or not.  You should constantly be taking pills once a day & any inconsistency will cause you to bleed more than once a month.
