i recently came across a hondorus mahogoney entranceway door. and it had some dull spots on it. i tried rubbing cabot australian timber oil on the door, and gently rubbed it in with a 000 fine steel wool. it worked fine exept in one spot. it took whatever finish was on the door completely off to what appears to be bare wood.. i don't know what product was used on the door, if it's a stain or just a topcoat. i found a minwax gelstain that when i put it on the door it looked exactly like the finish of the rest of the door but without the shine. but the stain would not take, on that spot. i sanded the spot. i rubbed some paint thinner on the spot in hopes of getting the wood to take the stain. and still no success. i don't know where the door was purchased and the owner doesn't remember either, it's about 10 years old. any suggestions
