dont go on any advise immediately, trust ur instincts Smile

probably your cd seemd to be corrupted , ie why it;s not able to read from the disc, otherwise as soon as it starts reading from cd , a messsage appears like "Press any key to continue" to begin the installation

Look in your programs to see if you have "PC help & Tools" there. If you do (as I do) click on it to see if System Recovery is listed. If it is click it to do a "system recovery" You will lose most of your programs, so back everything up. I had to do this last week on my other PC which is about six years old. When finished load up your antivirus, antispyware, and firewall and update them. Get updates for windows and microsoft, by clicking from the start menu. You can do this in about 45 minutes. Then put your programs back and anything else you might have lost. What takes the time is reloading your programs, but other wise it is pretty simple to do. If you do not have PC Help & Tools, let me know, there is another way to do it but more time consuming.  Good Luck..

Try putting the boot CD in after your up and running. Then select that device and look at the contents to make sure you are using a "boot" CD. The files listed should tell you whether you have the right CD. Also, you could try inserting the CD at boot time and as the F1 - F? selections pop up, interuppt by pressing the appropriate one. Then pick to boot off the CD. Good Luck

You did not say if you can boot up with any other boot up disc, ANY disc that has a bootup option. Are you trying to use an ORIGINAL xp or a COPY OF the program? If you can load windows, place a blank cd in drive to verify if cd is 'seen'.Place a disc with a program to see if it trys to load.
Take out or take out the i\o [input\output] cables & power going to cd. Boot up, then shut down. Replace the cd cables [I\o, and power cables] and reboot again. try the cd

Your cd could be kutput!! try to replace it [cd] with something simulor or close as possible.

ur cd rom is unable to read or damaged .replace it with the new one
