This is a hard one but here goes...My mother wants me to find out what this diagnosis means.

'The borders of the liver are slightly irregular. The spleen is prominent. There are multiple varices in the left upper abdomen adjacent to the stomach and GE junction as well as the splenic hilum. The portal vein and hepatic veins are normally opacified.'

She has a good Dr. and she likes him. She has hep B and she has goten so much better over the yrs. But she still (after so many yrs) has stomach trouble. After she eats. We are staring to lean toward it all being mental. By the way my mom is 75yrs old.

Any help is alot of help, need other ideas on what could be going on.

THANK YOU SO MUCH

Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

Don't assume that Mom's complaints are "mental";  The irregular surfaces of the liver suggests that the Hepatitis has done some damage to the organ and that can account for her gastric distress.  It would probably be best if she avoided foods that are oily. (Fried foods, nuts, chips, ect.)

Varices are enlarged veins, (like varicose veins in legs) and the spleen is also enlarged, so her insides are apparently stressed.

It may all sound pretty terrible, but considering her age and medical history, it may not be all that unusual.  If you are concerned, corner the Doctor and ask for a layman's explaination of her condition.

This is likely an MRI reading.  The only point, that I see, are the mention of "varices in the left upper abdomen adjacent to the stomoch and gastro esophogeal junction."  Varices are enlarged vessels that frequently rupture and may cause a person to bleed to death.  Enquire about these from her Doctor.
