Can I keep a goat in milk without inducing yearly pregnancies? I have been considering owning goats for milking and after lots of research I cannot find out if it would be harmfull to not dry out a goat or even cow and just continue milking. I don't know how this would impact the health of the animal or milk production. I just cannot stomach the waste of life that happens with breeding and the bad things that happen to the babies, not to forget the emotional distress of mother and child. As a nursing mother myself I know there is no harm to my body in continuing to lactate for years, in nature mammals are often still nursing when the next offspring is born. What would happen?
