Have you ever had a German Shepherd before?  Are you prepared to walk the dog everyday and work on training the dog? Whether the dog is good or not depends on you.

From my own personal experience, i can say most truthfully that it more often than not depends on how lovingly affectionate you are to him / her. They are generally very warm, loving, affectionate and extremely protective dogs but, they do not tolerate, for very long, mistreatment from their owners. My dog ran away after i mistreated him and to this very day i still miss him. My friend's dog, however, attacked him. He eventually had to get rid of him, because there just was no longer any trust between them.

Turn off the television and teach your children how to think.

It depends less on the breed of dog and more on its temperament as well as on the behavior of the owners.

Please do not rush into any decisions. That's how dogs end up in shelters.

That being said, I grew up with a purebred German Shepherd. We had him from the time I was a year old and he and I adored each other. I crawled all over him, chewed on his ears, tugged on his fur and poked him incessantly. He allowed me to do so without barking, growling or nipping at me. He followed me everywhere I went and was extremely protective of me.

Was it the breed? Or the individual dog?

Unfortunately, there's no way to tell.

Please do your research. And remember, no matter what breed of dog you decide upon; never leave small children alone with ANY dog.

It depends on how old your kids are. A 7 month old is pretty big, I have large dogs and usually put them outside when my 3 year old grand daughter is here. They don't try to bite her, but have no concept of how close they can get before knocking her down, or whacking her in the head with a wagging tail. Generally a pup that old has it's personality set. If you insist on a large dog, a younger pup would be better to raise with your children.
