Potato plant grown in a tub suddenly wilted. As there are other plants in the same tub, I removed it. one tuber was complete mush--although others on the plant that were very small looked ok. I couldn't find any other signs of bugs or disease. Right now all other plants in this tub and in the others look ok. This is my first time growing potatoes, what should I be looking for and any advice to prevent further problem. We have had an uncharacteristically wet early summer and had a series of very rainy days last week. Don't know if that could have impacted. In general my garden is being attacked by more pests than usual this year.

Does the tub have drainage holes in the bottom of it? COuld be the soil is too wet and the water has no where to go if no drainage holes.  Just a thought

Cheryl was invited by Yedda to answer this question.

The "tub" doesn't have drainage holes per se, but it is a permeable material.  (it's actually a "bag" sold by gardener supply.)  I think it does maybe hold moisture more than a tub with holes, there is no standing water, but when I reached down to the roots of the plant it was pretty wet. Maybe it is too much water though, thanks.
