What if you really don't enjoy a challenge at all?

what if you prefer unchallenging jobs?  that is, I've found that I really hate most jobs I have had, except the quiet ones where I just did data entry or filing. The factors I dislike are the ones that are referred to as "challenging".  I realize now I've NEVER been the kind of person who "enjoyed a challenge"  AT ALL, in any form.  I never enjoyed little puzzles or brainteasers, never cared to push myself at sports or anything else, and just don't like a whole lot of stress.  I was an excellent student,  always, I prefer to work in a quiet environment where I can focus on one thing at a time.  Sometimes I can get a great deal of work done that way.  I detest multitasking, I detest noise and fast paced environments, being in situations where I don't know what to do, being asked questions I don't know the answer to, and don't like to interact with large numbers of people in a day.  I want and need to work, and in general I prefer to be productive rather than not, but most jobs make me miserable.  What do I do?

The world is made of unique individuals. There are those who actively seek the absolute terror of a roller coaster ride 1000 feet high and speeding at warp speed through a 90 degree turn. Others prefer a paddle boat ride in a serene river. You obviously have decided long ago you'd rather live in assured predictability and control of unexpected situations must be non-strenuous. You state you were an excellent student, but of what studies or major? You also state you disliked the jobs you had before because of the challenges. You have already answered the type of job you prefer, filing or data entry. There are plenty of those jobs around. But I suspect you're main issue is that you can't find a job you seek for near solitude quiet that pays well. So you may have to take the bad with the good, unless depending on your education, you can find employment as an embalmer where you will be guaranteed not to be disturbed, questioned or interact with more than one individual at a time who never complain. Or data entry and filing.

Your direction, not your intention, determines your destination

Get a job with the IRS. There is lots of data entry in that agency and it sounds like it is in the line of work you enjoy. You like what you like, that's what makes you unique. It takes all kinds to make up the world and most people don't enjoy the kind of jobs you do. I guess there is someone for every job and don't feel you have to apoligize for preferring certain kind of jobs. Good luck.
