Yes I agree with you. And they know that they can act this way because it is very difficult to get another job right now.
Because they can. A company is in business to make money and payroll is expensive. They will pay whatever the lowest amount they can for the most amount of work and still get indivduals hired.
The search for people who can answer your question continues for as long as needed - until you find the answer you were looking for.
