can anybody tell me why in my email i am getting a lot of messages from people in nigeria or china or england, telling me that i have won money and i have to get in contact with them in order to claim that money. other emails ask me to get in contact with western union and give them my name and address in order to claim money.

If you've ever sold anything on the internet I'm sure you've been hassled by would-be scammers. These people often try and get you by saying that they have some inordinate amount of money they need to put in your bank account, and they'll give you some percentage (usually a couple million dollars). Sometimes you'll be selling something on craigslist and they will try to buy it for way more than it is worth. When it is time to exchange payment (which they require to be through "paypal") they send you a phished paypal email saying to mail the product before you will receive the funds. The good thing about doing this is that while you're having your fun wasting the scammer's time, they aren't scamming someone who is unsuspecting!

It's called SPAM. It's like internet junk mail, but worse. They're suposed to scam money out of you. They never deliver what they promise and can lead to harmful viruses on your computer. Steer Clear of these emails. Do not open them, Just DELETE. Hope this helps. :)

These are money scams! Do not give them any info or answer them back. I actually got one with the FBI logo on it and so I called the local FBI office. I was informed not to respond and was asked to forward the info to them which I did. They said there has been a rash of these e-mails lately.
