Appetite suppressants help, but are not a long term answer.
Dieting takes a LOT of planning and preparation, but trust me, its worth it.
First off -- throw out all your junk food. I know it hurts because its something you've paid for and you feel like you're throwing away money... but it is empowering and the right way to start off your change.
Second -- try eating six smaller meals a day. Always start with breakfast. If you normally dont eat breakfast, have something small. Plan out your meals ahead of time. For example, on your day off, plan your meals for the week, this way you dont have to worry about it every day. Space out your six meals.
For example if you work the 9-5 grind...
Breakfast 7am. Snack 10am. Lunch 1pm. Snack 3pm. Dinner 6pm. Snack 8pm.
Breakfast can be fruit and yogurt, eggwhites or an egg substitute (throw in sauteed veggies or cheese).
Lunch can be a wrap or sandwich or salad... just be conscious of what goes into this.
Dinner can be chicken or fish or a lean red meat with steamed veggies and rice.
Healthy snacks: Fruit (an apple, an orange, banana), almonds (buy snack baggies and count out portions to make sure you dont eat too many!), yogurt, raw veggies, hummus.
If you are a chips and dip person, stock up on veggies and hummus! Its a GREAT substitute. For your fruits and vegetables, try and get as many colors as possible. The different colors mean different nutrients... so you want a variety :)
Just remember if you eat six meals a day, they should be SMALL.
If you feel hungry or the urge to snack after your snacks, try drinking tea. Most dieticians will tell you that green tea is awesome for you... which it is, but if you're not a tea drinker, start with something fun. Chamomile, peppermint, there are a lot of options out there! and if you sweeten it with splenda or sweet'n'low, its almost like a treat.
Warm liquids help you feel full, so try the tea or bullion broth is good too.
Also, drink a lot of water. The rule is something like an 8 oz glass for every 10 lbs you weigh. If you dont like water, put cucumber slices, lemon ring, lime ring, or even grapes in the water! It makes it pretty and almost fun to drink :)
Let me know if this helps you at all.
If you try it and it doesnt work, I have a lot of other tricks up my sleeve :)
Good luck!
