How much would it cost to repair a Ford Windstar, & should I bother?

What would the cost be to fix the following on a 2002 Ford Windstar LX? Is it worth it to fix? Or should I just get another car? (I love this minivan!)

1. Transmission   2. radiator (from the trani blowing)   3. Heads (I already got the heads fixed, 2nd mechanic said 1st mechanic did a shoddy job, 2nd mechanic thinks I may need more than the heads fixed....) Which leads me to the question...how much for a new, used, or rebuilt enging for this vehicle? Thank you!!!!

Hi, I got a quote of $1200-$1800 for the trani, I just don't know how much the engine would be.

There is an outfit called Jasper that specializes in rebuilt trans and engines.  I'll bet you can find them on the 'net.  Their prices will be as good as you'll get, and you'll still have to pay for installation.  I strongly suggest you follow jennifer's advice, especially since there are better deals available these days.  Recent model Chrysler minivans have some pretty attractive features.  Check the NADA [Blue Book] website for the value of your Windstar and then decide if the repairs are worth it.

Is it a 3.0 liter or what size engine. That makes a differenceWhat part of the country do you live in that also matters because some states are higher than others. New York HIGH where Mississippi LOW. If you have a 3.0 and live anywhere in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi or Tennesee I have a 3.0 that came out of an earlier model Windstar but a 3.0 liter is a 3.0 liter as long as the cam confirguration is the same (duel overhead cams DOHC, single overhead cams SOHC or the regular single cam with pushrods engine) Most have the regular. I will take $100 for the engine because a guy bought the truck that it was going in for "muddin" before I installed it. He wanted a bigger engine. As far as the radiator you DO NOT have to scrap it. You can put the radiator on its back with the tranny lines pointed up with a  long rubber hose on one of them going into a jug of some type. Then you use compressed air to blow all the bad fluid out of it and then you put a funnel on the end of the hose (or a mustard bottle and squirt fingernail polish remover (acetone) into the line and let it sit for a day. You continue to put acetone in it until you see it come out the other line. Let it set like that for a day or two and then blow out the acetone the same way. The radiator will be fine at that point. Good luck,
