Absolutely, they pass bill after bill in opposition to the will of the people. Either they are so detached from the voters that they just don't care what the public wants, or they are so greedy for power and cold hard cash in their pockets and those of their backers that they believe they can do as they please. The voters apparently don't worry them as Americans typically have short attention spans and even shorter memories come election time. The dumbing down of America through revisionist nonsense and lowered standards and expectations is working beautifully. So, do they have their heads up their a$$es, yes, but even more they have something else up America's.

Change is a scary thing. Think of yourself! Do you not tend to go to the same resturant(s)? Or to buy the same news paper? Or listen to the same radio or group of stations? Congress is too far into the forest to see the trees. How come every other civilized country in the world has a free or modified health care system. Can the world be out of step and the U.S. the only one in step? Where do we see and read about long livers? Certainly not in the U.S. Can you imagine what would happen to a youngster with a college degree and working as a consultant to a multi-national company and making easily six figures...what would happen if he contacted some virus whereby doctors had to do the usual run up? That young man would be cleaned out. People in the U.S cry down Canada and the U.K. re having a lower standard of medicine. Like me you have not lived it and you are going by hear say. Doctors would maintain their lifestyle because the pie is still the same size. We have only cut it into larger sizes because we have cut out the private insurers, who do very well thank you very nuch, making money off your house, cars and other life policies. Can you honestly say Canadians die earlier than Americans because they lack medical attention? or the same for South Africa? The insurance companies are taking too large a piece of the pie. While some young healthy man or woman is playing Russian roulette. All will be fine until I get sick. You are stuck in the same old, same old habit. The single payer is "new" and therefore let us go back to the same restaurant. Let me share a fact you will find hard to accept. Americans are among the least travelled people outside of their country. They rate some where around number 55. They are also the least knowledgeable in world affairs. The U.S. is starting to do too much in-breeding because they are afraid of change. When there is high inbreeding the stain weakens. Have a look at Japan, Singapore, Australia, Germany, Sweden and Denmark.

It seems there are only a handful of honest politicians willing to do their job as the people want. The majority are lining their own pockets and ignoring the voters who put them in office. What I don't understand is if those elected don't pay attention to us, why in the name of common sense do they continue to be elected. Are we so stupid? Vote the suckers out of office. If they don't do their job, we have to do ours. Murtha, Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd, Obama to name a few are damning our Constitution, Military and Country. Republicans are not mentioned because they have no power. Who ever heard of bills being passed without having a chance to read them (or staff members)? Every one of those mentioned above have lined their own pockets spending our money like drunken sailors...my apology to sailors. God Bless America and please God bless us with good sense or we will completely destroy our United States of America.

Ginger, I'm more cynical than you are. I'd like to think there are a handful of politicians looking out for their constituents, but even that is a challenge. These people have families as well, so there is the REAL puzzle. I mean, members of Congress DO care about their families don't they? You are correct in everything you said. The American people are suppose to be among the most intelligent in the world. So what's happening? We need a real leader to oust the sludge. It's just not happening as I see it. Or at least, not yet!

Hi cs33ca I must take issue with your comment about other "civilized" (quotes deliberate) nations' medical care being free. I know for a fact that taxes in England are extremely high. A person may not be shocked by the financial obligation for example, after an emergency visit, but you did pay for it along the way. I'm sure that's the case for the other countries as well.

Candy, I just bought a book by Glenn Beck titled "Common Sense". It's not a lengthy read but very educational. I read it in a couple of hours. It reminded me of what rights have been denied us. It was just what the title said...common sense. Thomas Payne was the inspiration for this book and well worth the $10. I had forgotten so much of what Mr. Beck enumerated. He's a libertarian. I bought a copy for my Son also, he voted for Obama and I didn't. I'm not selling the book, the Library possibly will have it. I agree with you about the politicians having families and so many times I'm wondering if they are considering their children and grandchildren when they do so many stupid things or are they so short sighted they can't understand what they are doing. That sure gives us pause.
I pray God helps us out of the mess we are in or enough of us wake up and demand our country back.

Hi Latrine One,
Yes that is some of the problem, but a lot of the problem has to do with power grabbing. The more power the people grant to Congress the more they will take and then some. I have watched these people since the 1950's and with every passing year they gain more control over the people. One might ask how do they do this. The answer is really simple. They do it through the bills and/or legislation they write up and pass. They have a little at a time chipped away on the Constitution. This gives them more power. The more power they can take away from the people the more power they gain. People can change this real easy simply by stop re-electing the same old people every election. I know it has been hammered in the head of the people you have to keep re-electing the same people, because they know more about the policies and the legislation and everything that is going on. That is bull! I really get sick of that excuse. If this excuse is true then why have any elections of any kind/ Why not just let them stay their until they get so old they can not think, talk or walk. Then they could appoint one of their aides or one of their children to take over for them. That way they can keep the power grab going and eventually the people of this great country will have no say and no power at all and you will do as the government tells you to do. We are pretty close to that now. Think about this a President can only serve two terms; which comes out to eight years. A senators first term is six years; two years shy of eight for A president. A representatives first term is two years(a big gap, I know). So make a reps term four or six years. Anyway after they complete their terms get them out of office. Something else to think about. If we must keep re-electing the same old congress that is just grabbing power left and right, under the assumption that they know everything, then shouldn't this excuse apply to the President. Not that I agree with that old excuse, but if we got to live by that then it should apply to all politics. Do you see what the problem is now?
