Which program are you using to type your document?
Assuming it is Microsoft Word 2003 or lower go to tools - options - edit
and remove the mark on "overtype mode"
it will make it so inserted text will push the words its pasted in between instead of overtyping them.
If you are using word 2007 - click microsoft office button - word options - advanced - editing options - remove the mark on overtype mode
