I have been diagnosed with Rhuematoid arthritis ...

I have been diagnosed with Rhuematoid arthritis, but bloodwork didn't show it. I have found that most of the joints showing malformation seem to acutally be the result of bone spurs. Is there some condition that would cause excessive bone spurs? Is there any kind of familial disease that could cause it? My sister has sarcoidosis, which is why it is believed I have rhuematoid arthritis, even without it .showing in blood tests.

Have you tested positive for HLA B27? This antigen is found in about 90% of those with ankylosing spondylitis. This form of arthritis has the formation of bone spurs associated with it. And yes this is in the family of autoimmune diseases. If they didn’t test you for HLA B27 have them do so. Physical therapy is something that can help slow the progression I am told. I just received the news that my rheumatologist thinks this is what I may have. My mother has rheumatoid arthritis and my cousin has MS.  I hope you find your answers. Contact me if you would like to discuss this or rheumatoid further.

Hi Ardi,  Dana gave you some excellent information.  My advice would be to see a rheumatologist.

Rhuematoid arthritis is quite different from osteo. The tests could be faulty. I would ask to have the blood test repeated. You should also get x-rays taken. Bone spurs are not congenital as far as I know.

Many people have eliminated their bone spurs by supplementing their diet with a good calcium supplement. You can read about why and how this has helped at http://www.bonespur.com
