As far as reseachers know, the first occupants of Jerusalem over 3000 years ago were Jebusites, one of many ancient people in the area. According to the Bible, King David bought the land, although it's probable there was also fighting over it. The building began. On a spur south of the Temple Mount, upon which Soloman, David's son, built the First Temple, David built what is called the City of David, which is presently being excavated. Many relics have been found linking these sites to ancient Jews. Presently, the city of Jerusalem and surrounding areas are being widely excavated, and all show ancient Jewish occupation. Israel has been conquered about 25 times since antiquity, so relics from many cultures also remain, which helps researchers date the sites. There are lots of Roman Empire remains found-they are the Empire that conquered the Holy Land and banished Jews from Jerusalem in 135 CE, and who changed the name of the land from Judah/Israel to Palestine to cut off Jewish identity with the land. Muslims have controlled the land twice, once in the 7th century whereafter the Persians took over, and also in the 1500s, when the Ottoman Muslims conquered it. The Ottomans lost control of the land when they lost WW I. The Brits ruled for a while until the Jews, through the auspices of the UN declared their state in 1948. Neither Muslims or any other civilizations have claims to Jerusalem. Just because one makes something up doesn't make it true.
