We were excited about generating our own solar and wind power ... until we received our first quote!
We decided to rather go the diy route and found a good guide on how to build solar panels and wind turbines .

The guide shows how to build your own solar energy and keep your setup costs to an absolute minimum - the most important aspect for us. (Our quote was well into the $20 000s for a home solar system). By spending very little initially we were able to see some rewards from our hard work in a very short time.

There is also help in getting financial rebates from the United States Department of Energy - for people who invest in or purchase alternative energy systems.

All the best.

I've made a solar box-type cooker. You can find plans for them on line; just search on solar cookers. You don't have to have a big dish or mirrors or anything, just a cardboard box, some black point and aluminum foil. They can be made for just a few dollars and they can be used on any sunny day. They are slow cookers and you can't burn the food.

It works the same way your car gets hot in the sun if you don't leave the windows open. In fact, one of those wind washeld reflectors can be wrapped around the solar box cooker to help it work.

Cheers

Kits for doing solar electric or thermal panels for under $200 are a scam.  "Running your meter backwards", will require at least a 1 to 2 KW system, charge controller, inverter, optional battery bank (depending on type of inverter), enclosures, wiring, frames, etc.  Costs run from $3 to $5 per watt just for panels and double that for aux. systems and installation.  If you do it your selft, you are on the low end, have it contracted out, on the high end of the range.  In order to produce about 1/3 of the power consumed in an average home, you would need at least a 1 to 2 kw array.  Best to do both thermal and electric panels.  As for payback, we have invested approx. $20,000 in 200 sf of thermal panels and a 1 kw PV system for off grid emergency power.  Payback is long to infinite, but we did not do it for payback or to run the meter backwards.  Avoid DIY panels and low priced kits as they are not real.

We can Manufacture anything that you can afford.

Solar Photovoltaic Power is a way for any household or business of being able to be self sustainable in their energy needs. To be able to own a clean power supply, that will give a person something to show for the money that they will have to spend on electricity every month. There are other Solar utility products such as Solar water heaters that also help toward being self sustainable. Hope this helps, Gary McCullough-Raw Earth Energy Corporation
