I have a 6 year girl that will be turing 7 in august and also I have a 5 year old son who will be turning 6 in august also.  Any ideas of a birthday party theme that I can do for both of them together????!!!!

I'd go with a summer flick theme. Choose the new Disney/Pixar film (which most likely be a roaring success anyway), your kids and their friends will all know what's it about. It will be fresh in their minds, and it's probably what they want anyway.

Turn off the television and teach your children how to think.

Dawn gave you a good idea.

But I have to point out that I think it's a better idea to give your kids their own special day (each their own party) if you can possibly swing it.

It's so much nicer for kids to be treated specially and not have to share that with anyone. When kids are close together in some way (age, birthday, etcetera) then relatives often expect them to be similar or to share.

They should like the same things (so people give them identical presents) or look like each other (so they get the same sweater, just in a different color) or share their toys (even if it's brand new) and so on.

If your kids play together often and end up doing a lot of joint activities (for whatever reason), then maybe it would be nice to let each of them shine for a day - without their accompanying sibling in a costarring role.

Just something to think about!

I agree about separate parties.. However, if you need to have the two together, how about a swim party, magician, puppet show. Look at your local park and rec program maybe something will appear. Maybe a sleepover-one friend for the 5 year old and a few for the 7 year old. The boys could be in his room and the girls have more room.

I agree that separate parties might be better, but if you can't do that, maybe think about a pirate party or a royalty party.

Not all pirates were male and there's plenty of scope for all kinds of characters in a royalty themed party.

My girls have had pirate themed parties before and really enjoyed them, so just let you kids' imaginations run wild!

Hope everything goes well :)

If you want some more ideas, I've got a party games for girls blog, which covers themes suitable for girls and boys.
