Wanting to learn about the Bania in Rajisthan

I am currently studying the the Bania culture in India.  I am interested in learning about the food and the Jain religion as well as any traditional dress that might have been worn by the people in the past.  I am also interested in learning about rituals and practices past or present that are meaningful to the Bania.  I understand that there is a special ceremony involved in naming a child when they are babies.  Is that correct?

Some very interesting information on the history of Jain foods, and current practices can be found on this website.

Laurie...Yes this is true, but I understand that it is kept private and for the family only until after the ceramony, when it's a big announcement to "introduce" the child to the public...extended family and friends first.  The child is usually given a name that fits or describes something, or an action that will guide the child for success into the future...please remember...this is just my understanding, and I may be somewhere out in left field.
