But friends, consider that Americans of both major parties and a dozen other parties will not allow it to come here. No one wants that in America. People still come to America to live free of violence and oppression.
Consider also that to date, America is the only power on earth to actvely promote peace and understanding around the world.
Nixon sought out Mao Tse Tung in China, to reason with him about the need for gentleness in the Chinese government. Chairman Mao listened, and his successor Deng Showpeng carried through with these humanizing reforms.
Carter brought Israel and Egypt to Camp David to settle their differences: they had enough in common to find a way to peace. That saved many lives.
Reagan brought India and Pakistan to the negotiating table. Before, they had been at the brink of war and fighting across their porus border could have gone to even greater madness.
I think it is better to think back on our successes than our failures in bringing peace to the troubled world.
Only when Christ returns will we truly beat our swords into plowshares, our spears into pruning hooks, and our hearts into instruments of solace.
