Unsightly greenish froth and fish not eating

My goldfish wre spawning (or at least I think they were ) but the next day unsightly greenish tinged froth was all over the pond. I scooped it off but the next day my fish were totally off their feed. The only difference lately is I have started giving them frozen bloodworm and frozen Daphne and also put some water hyacynths in the pond . Having said that my fish are attacking the plants roots and tearing off lumps of the roots . Please help because I so love them all

Pond water containing too much protein froths easily and since you’re constantly agitating the water with the return from the filter, I suspect that this is the reason for the  froth you’re seeing . protein will be in the water from the fish spawn the uneaten food , it should sort itself out as the filter bacteria re-establish themselves and begin to do a thorough clean of the water. If it seems to be carrying on  for too long,  try testing the water – I’d bet you find that the dissolved organic content is too high.
If there are any trees or other sources of organic material around the pond it might also be a good idea to take suitable measures to ensure that leaves, grass clippings and so on don’t make their way into the water, or this problem could recur – especially if the pond is a relatively small one. depending on what kind of filter how old your pond is you may need to increase size of biological filter a good resource for everything garden pond .
