Esposito plumbing.. They are thieves. I paid 675 for a Moen faucet that cost $75 and half an hour to install..  What can I do to retrieve my money and let other people know about this dishonesty in a business where trust is a key element? Carleen Slattery Wantagh,NY

Conservation: Paying more and getting less.

The time to negotiate the price is before the work is done. And surely before you pay the bill. Now, I don't see any thing you can do to retrieve your money, unless you can get a TV station to act in your behalf. As for the other part, call the better business bureau.

Thank you for taking the time to answer this. I don't expect any recourse. I just wanted to try to prevent them from taking advantage of anyone else. I trusted them and the young man told me that was the only faucet he had with him. I was afraid of a leaking pipe and I told him to go ahead. it wasn't til later that I looked up the price of the faucet on the moen site. Thank you, anyway. I have learned a costly lesson

for future reference, check your state laws. in michigan, unless you sign a waiver, you have three days to void any transaction that occurs in your home precisely becuase of high pressure sales tactics. you are in your legal rights (unless you sign the waiver- that states you are waiving your right to cancel due to the emergency nature of the work.) to cancel the contract and the contractor would have to negotiate a settlement with you. a fair way to do it would be to call a few companies and get a estimate -average those out and then pay the contracor that amount.
