I have a 11 week old German Shepherd over here in Japan She is getting big but has trouble learning the basics [Sit, stay, lay down, etc.] because she's too hyper, How can I teach her how to listen to me?

Never let a dog on your chairs or bed or sofa. The dog should stay on the floor. The dog should eat only after you have eaten. The dog should be on a leash when walking, and try to keep it next to you or behind you. Do not let the dog lead. After a while, the dog will understand you are the alpha and it will be more attentive and try harder to learn your commands and work hard at pleasing you. It needs to understand it's position as a beta dog in the house.

It can also be hyper because you are anxious around it. Dogs really do pick up our energy and if we exude a calm, confident, alpha energy, they will be more attentive. If you are anxious, they pick this up and become anxious too.

One of the best methods that works when the dog is hyper is to distract it with a light tap and a clicking noise to get its attention. When they are going berserk and doing all kinds of things, you need to redirect their attention to you. Distract it with a light tap and a noise, like ssshhhtt, psst, EH, but not too loud, and break its concentration on whatever it is doing and get its attention. Then show it what you want it to do. Tell it the assigned word, like stay. Stay is the best place to start. Picture in your head what you want it to do and hold it gently in place. do not let it move and it will eventually get the idea. be sure to praise it later during play time, when it is supposed to be excited and running around. One hour playtime a day is really good, ten minute running, three times a day. They do need to get their energy out. Read a lot on the breed that you have. German shephards are really good guard dogs and learn quickly.

Hope this helps. Look up dog training online.  Cheers.
