My in-laws are retired in their 70's, renting an apartment in Queens. As far as I know, they have no retirement money they only depend on social security to pay their rent and bills. Back in the day they used to have their own businesses but it failed due to betrayal, 'back stabbing', etc. And they lost everything. On top of that, they have another son that put them in major debt with his illegal actions and is currently a recovering drug addict with no money. My mother-in-law constantly cries to my husband that they have no money, and they have a car impounded that they owe over $1200 due to unpaid tickets at the fault of the other son and father among other debts. We just make it every month to pay our rent and bills and just have a few dollars extra at times. I tell my husband that they need to sell whatever they have leftover from the old house ie: pictures, paintings, statues and LET GO! It is not fair that they should ask us and other people for money when they have it sitting around them! How do we convince them to stop being stubborn and let go?
