Strong wind around curves - Why?

I've been climbing a lot around Wadi Kelt lately. There's a big curve in the Wadi where the wind almost always hauls. Last Saturday, I've tried together with a friend, to physically explain the strong wind around curves phenomenon. I wasn't satisfied on what we came up with. So here I am asking the same question. ???

Might this be an example of Bernoulli's principle?  Air that flows over an airplane wing will have a higher velocity than air that flows in a more straight line under the wing.  Perhaps the air flowing around a curve is like the air flowing over the curved upper surface of a wing.
