Hello.......I work for Royal Caribbean and on our ships noise and vibration is a primary concern....We have many areas where particular attention needs to be paid such as what floor to put down where we have a "bike spinning class" and the deck below is our spa....Another area is the Basket Ball courts which is on an outside deck but below may be staterooms of kids area....Out ships are steel...all decks are steel and what ever flooring is specified will be applied to a steel deck......In some areas we can build a sub floor to help with noise but in many cases the free height or ceiling heights are very low, limiting our options. Equally important are construction and fire codes where all materials used must meet IMO or class ratings...
