Social Security Disability

I am 60, retirement age is 66. I am on disability social security. The amount I receive is double what I normally would have rec'd with normal social security at 66. At 66, does my disabilty social security end? At 66, does my social security amount stay the same? Or does it revert to what my normal amount would have been if I didn't get disability. I fear that my social security amount will drop to half of what I get now, when I will be needing it the most. Hopefully I can get an email answer from you. Thanking you ahead for your time and help.

Don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things.

I would call the main number of Social Security (1-800-772-1213) and ask them to clarify your situation. Also take a look at this web page for additional information that might be of help to you.

Retirement age is 67

Generally, your disability benefits end on the happening of the month before the month you reach full retirement age. Upon such an event, your disability benefits automatically convert into retirement benefits with no limit on your earnings.  For more info visit http://socialsecuritydefenders.blogspot.com/

Hi TeaHunter. Sounds like you spent some time on the old Route 66. See -  http://www.socialsecuritybenefitshandbook.com/page6.html#203_Disab - SS insurance is not to screw you out of earned dollars so what they do is call it by another name. Disability to "normal" Retirement. It might make you feel better to read over the SS handbook to see what some of the rules are. see; http://www.socialsecuritybenefitshandbook.com/ - It helps to have a couple beers before you start.
