Slow Washtub Drain

I have a "slow" washroom drain from 20-years'-worth of dog hair and lint draining out of the clothes washer. I can actually see standing water at the top of the drain when not in use. What is the best way to clear this drain? Also, is there a way to remove the plastic three-prong (inside drain pipe)whose top sits flush (and seems glued!) to the hard plastic washtub? Does blasting air work? Thanks, Sharon

One of the safest and easiest ways to take care of this problem is to get a stiff piece of metal (like a coat hanger) and bend a hook on the end about 1/2 inch. Keeping the wire straight you can go past the "three prong" and pull out the hair. OR if you know how...just remove the pipe under the sink and then remove the hair and then just put it back together just as you found it. Drano type products are dangerous to you and your pipes.

Make sure all of that backlogged water hasn't caused any water damage either.  You'd be surprised at how much damage a little leak could create.  If you're saying it's been clogged that badly for that long, it is definitely something worth checking out.
