Shiloh Pepin Mermaid Girl

Shiloh Pepin was born with half her body fused together.

She doesn't have a rectum, she doesn't have genitalia, her intestines is 6 inches long, and her legs are fused together.

Yes, it's a moving video, but if faced with the choice, would you have a child like that, or woulf you terminate the pregnancy?

Can you seriously advocate an abortion after having watched this?

How heartless can you get?

It seems to me to be an amazing story of truly unique peopls and one inspiring little girl who faces life and embraces it against all odds!

Turn off the television and teach your children how to think.

Every woman and every set of parents must make their own choices when faced with devastating news such as this.

It is wonderful to see the love this family shares and I am sorry for the pain they must endure along with that love.

However, if it were me and I knew my child would be born with that condition, then I would elect to have an abortion.

That is because I do not believe I could successfully deal with something like that and I do not believe in having a disabled child and then handing that child off for adoption or worse (foster care, etcetera).

My life, my choice. One I would not make lightly, and one I would never know for sure I would choose until faced with that situation.

Fortunately, I am 53 and no longer able to have children so I am not faced with that choice.

But again, if I were, then it would be MY choice to make.

I wholeheartedly agree with jkgrandma.  In fact, she's described my feelings perfectly.

I'm THRILLED that Shiloh's family made the choice that was right for them and are thriving with it, but I, personally, would not want to bring such an irrevocably disabled child into the world.  How could I know that after we [her parents] were gone, she'd be adequately cared for--and loved?  What if it turned out that the child could NOT function at as high a level as Shiloh? What if s/he needed 24/7 medical care and support--and we couldn't provide it?

No, I think there are too many variables in terms of what MIGHT happen after birth to knowingly bring a child like that into the world.

By the way, I describe myself as "pro-choice" but do not believe in abortion as birth control, or abortion past the point of viability, etc.  And I was faced with an unwanted pregnancy myself--and CHOSE not to abort it.  So hold the lectures about how heartless I must be!
