Sheetrock

Ask Eric Stromer a question here. I have a house built in the 70's and i recently repainted and textured my walls in the kitchen to get rid of the buldge where the sheetrock joins. it's still noticable should i sand or use joint compound to feather it out. The sheet rock is solid against the wall not loose and no water damage. it's maybe 1/4 or less (the buldge ) and no tape is showing  missy

I would think according to what I have read at this point sanding would not be the option I would go with, feathering with joint compound would the best.

Joint compound is the answer to float the wall out. If it were me, I would take a more radical approach and jab a sawsall blade throught the drywall at the top and bottom of the wall, and cut the 2x4 behind the drywall. It is probally bowed and causing the buldge. Once cut, the wall would relax a bit and the bulge might come out. Sometime you can cut it in the middle of the wall too to get the bow out. Look to see where the drywall comes out the most, if in the middle, cut it there. It won't do any structaul damage cutting one 2x4.

Just another idea.....George............

You should also replace the bowed 2x4 by sistering in a new 2x4--just to be safe and thorough. Takes only a few minutes to do it right.

Victims of circumstance owe it to fate. Victims of choice owe it to themselves.

Redoing the stud is the best.

Do not sand.

The second choice is to float this out. Use at least a 10" knife. Do not build up the high point whatsoever.

Good luck

i would go with george answer as to find point of bow then cut with skill saw two or 3 times about 1/4 inch a part . push in on wall to see if bow is going in , make sure you cut through 2x4 or it wont work. to relax bow, then try to use 4" screws and toe nail . take a straight edge metel or smooth edge 3/4 ft long on wall to see bow and to see if fixed. then get 12" putty knife putty putty wall , don't over putty in thin layers .
