I've never sewn with it in the machine, but have used elastic about the same thickness. With that, you wind it on the bobbin, and use reqular thread through the needle. Sew on the back side of work assuming you are using cotton for decoration. You could also try on the spindle but watch your tension and would need a large eye needle.
