Science fiction recommendations

I am rather new to the science fiction literature and I think I rather like it, can you recommend a few books (I am just reading the amber chronicles – it is amazing!) or series ?

I am a big fan of Philip Dick. The books like "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", "Ubik", "Martian Time Slip", "The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldrich", and the best one "The Man in the High Castle" should be readen by my opinion. I also like Stanislav Lem, but I am not shore if any of his books besides "Solaris" are translated and can be found.

This is more of phylosophic science fiction. If you are looking more for action  try Mike Crichton - The unforgetable writer of "Jurrasic Park" - every time I saw one of his books I bought it and he never dissapointed me.

If you are looking for fantasy - try unfinished Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time".

I was late for work this morning, because I got stuck in Zeno's paradox

Here is a short list of some  books I would recommend:

  1. Dune - Frank Herbert
  2. Ringworld series - Larry Niven
  3. Mars series - Kim Stanley Robinson
  4. Baroque trilogy - Neal Stephenson
  5. Perdido Street Station - China Mieville
  6. Last Light of the Sun - Guy Gavriel Kay
  7. Chalion series - Lois McMaster Bujold
  8. Altered Carbon  -Richard Morgan
  9. Thomas Covenant Chronicles - Stephen Donaldson
  10. Darwin's Radio (and the sequel Darwin's Children) - Greg Bear
I have come  across a few other of Stanislaw Lem's books that were translated into English (Cyberiad, War of the Newts) but none of them was as good as Solaris, in my opinion.

My goals: To know more than Ken Jennings; and to remain humble. Smile

Maybe you'd like A Song of Ice and Fire, the fantasy series by George R. R. Martin.  It's very popular; and I think that it would appeal to you, since you enjoy The Chronicles of Amber.
