Root canal needed - very bad headaches

I have needed a root canal for a long time since last year. However I went to a new dentist she decided it was not hurting me, looked at xrays so she filled it instead. 2 months down the line I have what appears to be abyss or ulcer , beside the tooth - she couldnt tell me which? she sent me a way to check xrays and inform me later. But more importantly I have these blinding headaches and fever now - I have taken antiobtics - just spoken to her - she said she will now do root canal...? (forgot to ask if headaches were part of problem). What are these headaches?? are they serious?? I am very hot, feel really feel ill since wednesday....... is this usual,,,, what can I take to relieve them...?? thanks for any advice!

GIVE a man a fish and you feed him for a day. TEACH a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

SADLY, most fishermen are afraid to touch the worm.

Wow, it sounds like time to get a competent dentist!

If you have an abscess or a ulcer, you will also generally have swelling of the area, fever, pain in the general area and headache among other potential symptoms. If you're taking antibiotics, some of the symptoms should begin to abate by the end of the first day. If the dentist does the RC, the abscess/infection will be drained and the pressure removed. You may well still have pain, but the other symptoms should relieve quickly.

You can self medicate with aspirin, ibuprofen or acetaminophen. With all three of these, you want to be cautious not to excess the recommended doses over any given 24 hours. The Dentist should also be willing to scrip you something stronger, Loratab generally being the dental drug of choice.
