Replacing the garden hose faucet

How do you replace the faucet for an exterior garden hose faucet. I took it all apart and replaced the washer in the back of the long tube that goes into the copper pipe, but it still leaks (a lot) like it has been slightly turned on.  I have been told that the whole faucet needs to be replaced. It is a anti siphon faucet. Help?  Thanks Tonya Elliott

Unscrew the complete faucet (after you turn the water off at the main), take it to a hardware store and buy another one the same size.

Tonya, I'm sure it's frost proof sill faucet if it's an exterior faucet. All this means, it turns off inside the house about 8-12 inches. There is a small rod in the handle that does this. You must replace all the back to where the orginal faucet was hooked on. Go to your local hardware and tell them you need a frost free sill faucet. Some will need to be sweat on with solder. You can also get one with what is called a compression fitting. This you will just install with wrenches. Talk to  the people at the hardware... they will be able to help you out. Just be sure to get the same length as the old one you remove. Hope this helps!
