You sound as though you are from the 1950s. Communism is not the threat. Russia is dangerous, because the US ignored them while basking in "American exceptionalism", and lost a great chance to bring them into the community of nations. This terrible American error may yet bite us on our rumps, but they are not communist, they are more like the US in the 1870's. China is only technically communist, but it is a pragmatic system where capitalism flourishes. Are you worried about nations south of our borders? You may well have a concern, but largely because they are tired of CIA-inspired tyrants and revolutions and no longer want to follow Washington's dictums. Some, like Venezuela, are trying to use their oil wealth to benefit their poor: hardly "Un-American". Joe McCarthy and the "House Committee on Un-American Activities" died a natural death, when the American people realized that it was an embarassing political witch-hunt. Like Prohibition, no one wants to go back there again. It is time for the US to "man-up" and realize that other countries have rights and beliefs just like we do.   Best Regards:   Coinman

If the GOP is back to grand standing in the search for "Commie pinkos," maybe. But it was a bad idea from the git go.  Gave rise to Old Joe, that alcoholic Wisconsin senator, who finally got his come uppance by a kindly old Judge from Boston: "Shame on you, Senator," he chided.
